New Wellness Programs Coming 2021

The founder of An Angel of Hope, Wualter, has benefited from adopting a healthy lifestyle. After a personal injury in 2017 during a mission in Guatemala, he started eating healthy and exercising consistently.

After experiencing the benefits being healthier, Wualter realized the people in schools served by the ministry need to grow aware on becoming healthier.

The Need Observed

Most of the children who attend the schools we serve only eat one meal at school. This the one and only meal they are served. And this is not enough. The portions are not adequate and the meals are not balanced. For example, teachers divide a total 3 pounds of chicken meat to serve to 85 students; this is not enough protein to support each child’s development. Also, one egg is divided and served to 4 students which not a proper serving size either. And while some children eat at home, we know these are not well balanced or adequately portioned meals.

This is why we are starting the Wellness Program because we believe its going to helped them in the long run.

Nutrition Program

The ministry has started making plans to build harvests in two of the schools we serve. The harvest will make it possible to grow vegetables. The produce will be used for feeding the students during the academic year.

In addition to the harvests, we’ve partnered with a nutritionist who will educate adults on proper nutrition for children. This is important because adults need to become better aware about the type of nutrition that supports the development of children, especially at earlier stages of development. The nutritionist will assist in teaching about portion size and well balanced meals.

We know that a child’s basic needs must be met in order for children to be able to focus and learn. This is why are taking initiative in helping children are provided with adequate nutrition while they attend school.

Exercise Program

We also understand that it is important for children to be active. This involves providing quality physical education. In order to accomplish this, we are partnering with a physical trainer to train a PE teacher on proper techniques.

The trainer will travel to Guatemala from Houston, Texas in order to spend time in person with the PE teacher. Together they will create a program to support the physical development of children in schools.

Getting Involved

If you wish to be a part of promoting wellness for the students in Guatemala, we ask that you pray first and foremost. We believe you can get clarity and direction about how you can best partner with us. Prayer is also a great way to support our work.

One of the ways to be a part of this wellness initiative, is through giving. Your donations will make these resources more readily available for the children. Your monetary contributions are used to make resources like supplies and equipment affordable for the schools we support.

We are currently in the planning phase. However, we look forward to kick start the programs in January 2021.

We Blessed 7 Communities, Mission 2019-2020

Our most recent mission trip took place in January 2020.

Your generosity made it possible for us to bless 7 communities!! In total, we delivered supplies for 1,300 students and awarded 4 scholarships.

To see the work accomplished, watch:

However, this mission was extra special because we also had the opportunity to bless families affected by a volcano eruption from a few years ago.

300 Families in Escuintla

Recovering from a natural disaster is not easy. However, for families with scarce resources it is nearly impossible. When we found out the devastation, we prayed about a way we could help.

After prayerfully considering what to do, we knew we had to bless the community of Escuintla. We were able to bless more than 300 families food, clothes, shoes. We all provided toys for their children and hygiene products for adults.

We could not have done this without your help and support. For that, thank you!!

We Turned 5!!

We are happy to celebrate 5 years of ministry!!

This is a work of faith for us. Over the years we’ve seen how God has provided for this vision. And we are grateful for the many individuals like you that have joined in. We are thankful for every person that has said yes to doing the Lord’s work. We could not have made it this far without your support.

As we celebrate turning 5, we are honored to be trusted by you. We are honored by the families that have welcomed us into their homes. We are honored by the communities that have partnered with us. We are honored by leaders that have engaged with us and believed in this mission.

On behalf of every life that has been impacted and changed by your generosity, we thank you!!

We look forward to celebrating many more milestones.

Making Education Affordable, Mission 2018-2019

For most children in Guatemala, getting an education is a dream. However, with your support we can help make it a reality.

Every year we visit 6 schools. Prior to the start of the academic year, we deliver school supplies. We’ve also created computer labs for students to learn computer skills. We’ve brought a psychologist onboard as well and this has helped improve children’s development. Finally, we have dedicated resources to provide safe recreational equipment.

Check out our latest mission:

We are passionate about spreading God’s love and hope. Thank you for partnering with us to accomplish this!!

Our FIRST Graduate!!

We are excited to celebrate our very FIRST graduate!! And we look forward to celebrating many more.

And intead of us telling you all about it, we want to show you. Watch her story:

Her name is Gladys Ordonez. She graduated from INTECAP.

Now, she is a chef. We are excited about all the opportunities this creates for Gladys. She is the first person in her family to ever graduate. We know she and her family are blessed by this milestone.

We invite yo to join us in supporting more children like Gladys. Your support will change a child’s life.

Helping Children Get an Education

Public education in Guatemala is free; however, the cost of supplies and uniforms prevent children form low income family to go to school. Our mission is to help change that.

Thanks to your help we are achieving our mission of spreading the love of God by supporting every child’s right to an education. Here’s how your support impacts children and their families.

We ask that you prayerfully consider partnering with us to advance this work.

Thank you for your support!

A Day of Fun and Pizza

For the past four years, we have traveled to Guatemala every January to distribute school supplies. We also provide shoes and coats for children.

On this mission trip, in January 2017, we got to treat the children with a day of fun. This is significant because children often work hard to help provide for their families.

However, for some of the children this was the first time they enjoyed pizza.

Children Having Fun and Pizza

It always amazes us that something we take for granted can have such a joyful blessing.

In the end it is our to help kids be kids.

Creating Computer Labs in Rural Schools

Computers are trivial to our work and way of life in many parts of the world. However, in rural parts of Guatemala this is just not the case.

Statistics show that roughly 22,920 public schools in Guatemala do not have access to a computer lab. This is significant because if children do not learn computer skills, they will be further behind in the marketplace of the future. It is important we teach children computer skills because it will help them compete for jobs when they grow up.

We have created 4 computer labs in different schools. We have installed 20 computers. It took us 28 days of physical labor to get the labs ready. We are excited to see this project come to fruition.

Majority of these students had never seen a computer. And now they get to take computer clases at least once a week.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

-Nelson Mandela

We are thankful for every piece of equipment that has been donated. Your generosity makes it possible for children to have a better educational experience.

Sponsoring Children

We met Gabriela on July 2014 during a visit to Pica Piedra – literally translated to mean Flintstone. There we observed that children work hard to help make ends meet. But this should not be a child’s preoccupation.

Our first visit to Pica Piedra

We decided to collect and donate presents during our December 2013 mission. We were happy to collect presents for 100 kids. We wanted to help children celebrate Christmas with presents, in addition to delivering school supplies.

We learned of Pica Piedra and thought this was the perfect place to bring smiles to as many children as we possibly could. Pica Piedra is a place where children work chiseling rocks in an effort to help support their families.

And that’s where we met Gabriela and heard her story.

Gabriela’s story

We learned Gabriela worked at Pica Piedra because she could not afford school. She was 13 years-old then. She was living with her grandmother and sister because their mom and dad had abandoned them.

That year, a family from my local Houston church traveled with me to Guatemala. They met Gabriela and fell in love. Once we returned from the mission trip, the family told me they felt led by God to provide for Gabriela’s education.

Now, 2 years later, Gabriela continues to go to school thanks to the monthly generosity of this family. So instead of working, Gabriela attends school.

Generosity changing children lives

As a result of raising awareness, 2 new families volunteered to sponsor 3 new children.

As we observed the eagerness of families to sponsor children, we became committed to changing children lives through sponsorships.

Gabriela’s story inspired us to grow our impact. Witnessing the change sponsoring has caused in her life, we are more motivated than ever to continue and grow this initiative.

Supporting Teachers

Someone’s disposable items can become great provisions for someone else in need. We know this from experience.

Before it got to the trash

On the eve of a mayor oil and gas company changing offices on December 2013, we received a phone call.

The oil and gas company needed to clean out the old offices. Their solution was to dispose of everything and anything that was left over because nothing old would be moved to the new offices. They were considering throwing away everything regardless of its usefulness.

We were given less than 24 hours to clean out the offices. We accepted the challenge! We knew we could find good use to anything found in the old offices.

Putting to use the new supplies

Up to this point we had collected and donated school supplies for children. That was and remains our primary focus. However, receiving office supplies inspired us to be creative and think how these supplies could be repurposed to benefit the children. Naturally, we thought of donating it all for the classrooms.

In rural schools, classrooms are not adequately equipped. Teachers do not have enough teaching materials, especially when it comes to subjects related to the arts and sports. Therefore, donating supplies to them would positively impact the educational experience of the children.

Now, a couple of years since that first batch of supplies, we continue collecting supplies in our effort to support 35 teachers in 5 different schools. If you wish to donate any supplies contact us, 713-364-4891.
